Explore the Peak District Differently: 12 Alternative Weekends for 2026
The Peak District is no secret – and that’s part of the problem. Every year, a few honey pots become a magnet for walkers, campers, day-trippers and sightseers, particularly in the warmer months. While it’s wonderful to see people enjoying these incredible places, the pressure on infrastructures, residents and fragile landscapes is very real.
This year, we’re doing things a little differently and we invite you to come along for the ride.
We’re launching a 12-part series of alternative weekend escapes, designed to take the weight off and guide you to beautiful corners of the Peak District that are just as scenic, welcoming and adventure-ready – often with more parking, fewer queues and just as much wild charm. We’ll also be launching new merch alongside to celebrate these lesser known spots.
Whether you’re travelling from or via the North (Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield), the West (Manchester, Liverpool), the South (Derby, Stoke, Nottingham) or the East (Sheffield, Lincoln, Doncaster), we’ve found great walks, cosy pubs and quiet campsites to help you explore more responsibly – and enjoyably.
What to Expect
Each monthly feature will include:
One great walk: Tried and tested, mapped out and chosen for scenery, accessibility and how well it showcases the local landscape.
One welcoming pub: A perfect post-hike pint or hot meal. Often independent, always full of character.
One well-located campsite: Peaceful spots that give you access to the trail without the squeeze of packed car parks or overflowing laybys.
Why It Matters
We believe in championing the entire Peak District – not just its poster children. There are countless valleys, ridges, villages and vistas waiting to be discovered, and spreading out the footfall helps protect the places we love. It also gives you a better experience. You’ll park easier, walk freer and rest better knowing you’ve found a spot that fits like a glove, not a bottleneck.
Who This Is For
Weekend warriors looking for new routes
Sustainable travellers keen to reduce impact
First-time visitors who don’t want to get caught in the crowds
Returning walkers ready to explore beyond the honeypots
When We’ll Share
We’ll be publishing one guide per month, each timed to suit the seasons and travel patterns. Expect a blend of riverside rambles, moorland hikes, forest trails and ridgeline views – all away from the worst of the crowds and all worth shouting about.
Watch this space: Our first post – a wild and windswept wander for anyone coming from the West – lands soon.
