Hope to Edale Reverse Route 2
Hope to Edale is a great one for those fed up with the limited parking in Edale as there’s plenty of places to leave your car if you choose to drive into The Hope Valley. It’s also got two great routes taking in different sights so you get to keep things interesting each time you visit. For those that travel by train it’s also a perfect starting point as Hope has superb options for stocking up before and after you hit the hills.

Hollins Cross Circular
This is a circular route and begins at Edale Railway Station. We consider it easy as, while there is a climb and some rough terrain it isn’t particularly long so with the odd breather we’d suggest everyone can make it up and down in one piece.

Edale & Hayfield Circular
This is a circular route taking in both Edale and Hayfield. You can start from either. Part of the route (from Hayfield) was taken by the Mass Trespassers who sparked the Right to Roam movement. We recommend catching the train to Edale and stopping for lunch in Hayfield.

Kinder Scout Mass Trespass Walk
Enjoy this piece of history as you embark on the route taken by the Mass Trespassers who sparked the Right to Roam movement that gave the public access to thousands of acres of moorland. We recommend starting and ending at Hayfield for the full experience.

Chinley to Edale Reverse
The advantage of factoring Chinley into your Edale hike is that it allows you to avoid the Edale crowds and still take in all the majesty of the Vale of Edale. Our advice is to hop off at Chinley, meet at the station or The Old Hall Inn depending on the time of day and end it at The Penny Pot in Edale before catching a train home. If you do it in reverse The Old Hall Inn offers an award winning afternoon or evening meal and has ample outside seating space in the Summer.

Grinds Brook and Back
One of the prettiest walks in Edale but also the busiest. We recommend avoiding this in the Summer months but save it for a bridge season mid-week hop or a winter stroll when there are far fewer people in the valley.

Not Quite the Edale Boundary Walk
A walk very similar to the bi-annual locals extravaganza ‘The Boundary’. A mammoth effort that for true completion (meeting the boundary edges) requires some off piste local knowledge. Our nod to it sticks to paths where possible but covers roughly the same distance and duration.

Bamford to Edale Reverse
This is a fantastic way to get your Edale experience without hitting the summer crowds. It begins in Bamford at The Yorkshire Bridge Inn and takes in Ladybower Reservoir, Win Hill, Kinder Scout and Grindsbrook finishing at Edale station for your train ride home. You’ll be the envy of all your friends.

Jacob’s Ladder, Kinder Downfall and Groughs
A hike for the ages. Particularly challenging as it takes you through the peat groughs of Kinder Scout and it is very easy to get lost. We recommend hiking with someone who can read a compass or has orienteering experience and you pack for all weathers. Ready?

Hathersage to Edale Reverse
Hathersage to Edale is one of our favourite walks as not only are you ending in one of the Peak District’s most beautiful destinations, you get to start at Hathersage too. It’s a beautiful marriage of two of the most sought after destinations in The Hope Valley.

Grinds Brook & Jacob’s Ladder Circular
This is one of our favourite walks and is easily turned into a full day out on the hills with Thermos stops for tea with incredible views and riverside picnic spots that are particularly useful when in need of a cooling dip in the Summer months.

Hope to Edale Reverse Route 1
Hope to Edale is a great one for those fed up with the limited parking in Edale as there’s plenty of places to leave your car if you choose to drive into The Hope Valley. It’s also got two great routes taking in different sights so you get to keep things interesting each time you visit. For those that travel by train it’s also a perfect starting point as Hope has superb options for stocking up before and after you hit the hills.

The Double Shelf
This is a lovely, quiet walk and you’re unlikely to meet many people along the route. The valley views are fantastic and without too much effort to get to them. Look out for John Connor’s bench for a good rest stop after about half an hour and having conquered the bulk of the uphill. Learn more about this easy Edale walk with great views. Grindleford to Edale Reverse
This is one of those walks you’ll need to make sure you’ve had a good hearty breakfast to get you through. As well as a good lunch in your napsack for the journey. As well as some snacks to give you a pep up when the legs begin to wobble at the end! It. Has. Everything. Get your eyes on Padley Gorge, Surprise View, Higger Tor, Stanage Edge, Ladybower… you get the idea. It’s huge!

Western Valley Circular
One of our favourite half day rambles because you can turn it into whatever you want it to be. It’s also quite easy on the legs as there isn’t much incline and what there is could be considered gentle. Take your swimmers if you fancy a dip and pack a picnic to make it a full day out in the hills.

The Horseshoe
This is a well trodden path and probably the easiest route up to the top of Kinder Scout. We don’t class it as particularly hard because it isn’t particularly long but bear in mind it does involve around 45-75 minutes of ascent. Learn more about this Edale hike that has a medium difficulty, see pictures and download maps by clicking the link below.

New Mills to Edale Reverse
We’ve really outdone ourselves here. This walk gives you so many options for all the family. Get off at New Mills and those less keen on a long day on the hills can take in the fabulous Millennium Walkway and Torrs Riverside park while the more energetic folk in the group can set off along the Sett Valley Trail to climb Kinder Scout in the path of the Mass Trespassers, reconvening in Edale to share your highs and lows!

Ollerbrook Farm Walk
One of those walks you’ll always have in your back pocket for your visits to Edale. We rank it as the easiest walk you can do here and perfect for all the family. Learn more about this popular Edale walk, see pictures and download maps by clicking the link below.
