Fresh Trails, Full Plates, New Adventures

A snowy vale of Edale, with Losehill catching the light in the background.

The hills have drawn their frosty blanket up tight. The last of the tinsel is packed away. Edale wakes to a brand new year.

There’s a stillness in the valley this time of year, but also a quiet sense of resolve. The sun sits low, the winds sharper - yet the trails are calling again. The beginning of January is often marked by a walk: boots pulled on, cheeks stung pink, lungs filled with that cold, clean air. A step forward. Then another.

And so it goes.

Here at Visit Edale, we’re embracing that same spirit. The New Year is all about fresh starts, renewed purpose and making good on the things that matter. For us, that means continuing to share the very best of Edale and the wider Peak District with you - but doing it even better.

Hike Guides, Refreshed & Reimagined

You may have noticed our hike guides are beginning to look a little different. We’ve been busy redesigning them with more intuitive layouts, clearer directions and some beautiful imagery to make choosing your next walk easier and more enjoyable. Whether you’re planning a weekend wander or a full-day stomp over Kinder, our new-look guides are made to go with you - on your phone or printed out.

And this is just the beginning.

We’ll be updating and expanding the collection over the next few months, always with the same care and local insight you’ve come to trust. Expect new routes, hidden gems, circulars you might have missed, and seasonal notes to help you choose the right walk for the weather, the light, and your mood.

What Comes After the Walk?

We all know the joy of a post-hike pint. A warm fire. A bowl of something steaming. Good food that tastes even better after a long day on the hills.

That’s why we’re also introducing a new strand to Visit Edale: reviews and recommendations for the very best places to eat and drink across the Peak District. From hearty pub lunches to elevated dining in village inns, we’ll be shining a light on the people and places serving up something special in these hills.

Our first review? The Packhorse Inn in Hayfield. Beloved by walkers and food lovers alike, it’s a beautifully kept 18th-century inn offering modern British menus rooted in the landscape. Local game, Peak District lamb, foraged ingredients and a wine list that surprises in all the right ways. A perfect stop after tackling Lantern Pike or heading down from Kinder Scout’s western edge.

Look out for our full write-up later this week - and more reviews to follow throughout the year.

As we stride into 2026, our hope is to keep doing what we’ve always done: help you fall a little more in love with Edale and the wider Peaks. To help you walk smarter, eat better and tread lighter.

To notice the birdsong. To leave no trace.
To take the long way round, just because.
To breathe deep and smile often.

Thanks for being with us. Let’s make this a good year.
See you on the trail.
